Al Wakrah Beach

Travel and Tourism/ Beaches/ 4.3 569 Rating

Al Wakrah lies just 25 minutes south of Doha and has a public family beach. It is a flat, wide, and sandy beach starting off golden in color and getting lighter and softer as you approach the sea. Like Simaisma, the sea is far from the beach, especially at low tide. Once you get to the sea, the shallow water extends for a very long distance making it almost impossible and unsafe to swim. There are plenty of mangroves in this area, which makes it an interesting place to walk around and spot the small fish and wildlife. Al Wakrah has plenty of shops and restaurants for refreshments. The beach itself has barbecue facilities and playgrounds. It has a large tidal range, which makes it quite shallow and not necessarily ideal for swimming. Excellent facilities such as gazebos and umbrellas provide welcome shade; children’s playgrounds keep the little ones busy, while a volleyball court, a soccer pitch, restrooms, and barbecue facilities make the journey from Doha worthwhile. Play ball, fly a kite, or simply stroll along the wide beach which starts off golden in color and gets lighter and softer as you approach the sea. The shallow water makes the beach area safe for children. They will enjoy seeing a crab or three in the sand, feeling tiny fish swimming around their toes, and finding plenty of seashells to chuck in their bucket.

The main beach has gazebos and umbrellas to offer some shade from the soaring midday temperatures and great on-site facilities such as three terrific playgrounds, a volleyball pitch, a soccer pitch, toilets, showers and BBQ facilities.

It is a long walk, but well worth it; the clarity of the water and softness of the sand are second to none. Don’t forget your camera and take some beautiful shots of your family playing in the crystal clear blue water. Kiddies will enjoy seeing a crab or two side-stepping quickly in the sand, feeling shoals of tiny fish swimming around their toes, and finding seaweed and a myriad of shells to put in their bucket.
