Doha Film Institute is an independent, not-for-profit cultural organization established in 2010 by Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani to support the growth of the local film community through cultivating film appreciation, enhancing industry knowledge and contributing to the development of sustainable creative industries in Qatar. The Institute’s platforms include funding and production of local, regional and international films; skills-sharing and mentorship programs; film screenings; the Ajyal Youth Film Festival; and Qumra. With culture, community, learning and entertainment at its foundation, the Institute is committed to supporting Qatar’s 2030 vision for the development of a knowledge-based economy.

Since December 2014, the CEO has been Fatma Al Remaihi. DFI engages in funding and production of local, regional and international films, educational programs, film screenings, the Ajyal Youth Film Festival and Qumra, an initiative that seeks to provide mentorship, nurturing, and hands-on development for filmmakers from Qatar and around the world. Previously, DFI has hosted four editions of the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) in support with Tribeca Enterprises.

One of our main aims is to provide Qataris and local and regional talent with opportunities to tell their stories through the medium of film, as well as opportunities to develop skills and professional careers in the film industry.
