Students from Qatar will hold a lantern event to light up Doha Corniche, in line with the start of the World Cup on November 20. A lantern-making workshop in preparation for the event was organised by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, in collaboration with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy. Public and private schools participated in the workshops, to showcase students' creations in the "Let's Light Up the Corniche" event.
One of the most important events to be held in the State of Qatar, this event is being held to welcome fans attending the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. About 3000 to 4000 male and female students from 60 public and private schools will join the event, and the students will carry the lanterns they made with their parents along Doha Corniche, as one of the largest events and recreational activities that will be held on the Corniche during the World Cup period.
The training workshops were attended on the first day by a team of artists from Qatar Museums and Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar. Jelly Jackson, an Australian specialist in the manufacture of light lanterns, trained the attendees who will be supported by artists during the training workshops that are targeting teachers of visual arts, drawing and music from participating schools.
A video demonstrating how to do lanterns will be posted on the ministry's platforms, allowing the public to make their own lanterns to participate in the event.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education invited parents to attend the shows on November 20 at the Doha Corniche in the evening, which coincides with the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
