Mutaz Essa Barshim sets a new meeting record of 2.36m to secure his first Diamond League victory of the season

Mutaz Essa Barshim, a three-time world and reigning Olympic high jump champion, won the Wanda Diamond League Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial meeting in Chorzow, Poland, on Sunday. The Qatari star, 32, took the global lead and also surpassed his personal meeting record of 2.35, which he set in 2016. It was his first Diamond League triumph of the season, following a third-place result in the season-opening in Doha in May.

Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy, who notably shared Olympic gold with Mutaz at the 2020 Tokyo Games, placed second with a 2.34M clearance on his second try. Tobias Potye of Germany, who also passed 2.34, had to settle for third place on countback.

Mutaz was unstoppable in Poland, clearing 2.20, 2.24, 2.27, 2.30, and 2.32 on his first try.
