Ooredoo Qatar has launched the country’s first quantum-safe communications link in partnership with HBKU and the Ministry of Defence, marking a major milestone in cybersecurity.
The first-of-its-kind project in the region strengthens Qatar’s position in quantum-secure communications and supports the development of next-generation digital infrastructure.
The project uses Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology to establish a fully operational quantum-safe connection, generating and distributing encryption keys through quantum mechanics while instantly detecting any interception attempts.
Deployed within Ooredoo Qatar’s live network, the initiative builds on research by HBKU and ID Quantique (IDQ) to develop a QKD testbed compatible with existing telecommunications infrastructure.
Ooredoo Qatar deployed the technology within its operational network, demonstrating the readiness of quantum-safe communication solutions.
