The MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix 2026 will take place from November 6 to 8 at Lusail International Circuit, remaining the season’s only night race. Since joining the MotoGP calendar in 2004, Qatar has become a standout destination, hosting the championship’s first-ever night race in 2008.
MotoGP is the premier class of the FIM Grand Prix World Championship, governed by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme. Established in 1949, it is one of the oldest motorsport world championships. The season features 22 Grands Prix across five continents, alongside Moto2™, Moto3™ and selected MotoE™ events.
How the Championship Works
A typical MotoGP weekend runs over three days:
- Friday: Free practice sessions to fine-tune bike setups.
- Saturday: Qualifying determines the starting grid, followed by the Sprint race.
- Sunday: The main Grand Prix takes place, with riders competing for championship points.
In Grand Prix races, the top 15 finishers earn points, with 25 for first place. Sprint races cover about half the Grand Prix distance, awarding points to the top nine riders, with 12 for the winner.
Lusail International Circuit is known for its high-speed corners, dramatic first turn, and kilometre-long main straight. Its iconic floodlights create a spectacular setting for night racing.
