Qatar has once again confirmed its position among the world’s richest nations, securing a leading place in the Forbes India 2025 ranking of countries by GDP per capita adjusted for purchasing power parity (PPP). Based on data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the ranking evaluates average economic output per person while accounting for differences in living costs, providing a more accurate measure of prosperity.
In the latest list released this month, Qatar ranks sixth worldwide, with GDP-PPP per capita estimated at $122,283.2. This places the country firmly among an elite group of affluent economies, including Luxembourg, Singapore, Ireland, Liechtenstein and Macao SAR.
GDP per capita adjusted for PPP is widely considered a reliable indicator of economic well-being, as it reflects actual purchasing power rather than nominal income figures alone.
Qatar’s high ranking is underpinned by its energy-driven economy and small population base. The country is one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of liquefied natural gas, supported by the North Field, the biggest non-associated natural gas field globally. Revenues from oil and gas continue to form the backbone of national income and exports.
Alongside this, Qatar is advancing economic diversification through its National Development Strategy, with growing investment in finance, infrastructure, technology and tourism to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons and enhance resilience.
Large-scale global events, particularly the FIFA World Cup 2022, have accelerated infrastructure growth and strengthened Qatar’s international profile, reinforcing its role as a regional hub for business and tourism.
