Qatar joins race to host Olympic and Paralympic Games

After hosting the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 AFC Asian Cup with great success, Qatar has formally entered the contest to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the biggest athletic events in the world.

As part of the revised Host City election process for the multi-sport extravaganza, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) said Tuesday that it is in negotiations with the International Olympic Committee.

The nation is a strong candidate to host the 2036 Olympics because of its impressive track record of organizing major events. Qatar is more than capable of taking on the responsibility of hosting the Olympics, according to a statement issued yesterday by HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Chairman of the Bid Committee and President of QOC.

The proposal to host the Games is in line with Qatar's National Vision 2030, which prioritizes economic, social, and human growth, the QOC emphasized.

Qatar has an unrivaled record as a host country, having hosted 18 World Championships in the last 20 years alone.

With an emphasis on involving youth, exchanging knowledge, encouraging innovation, and advancing sustainability, Qatar's bid for the 2036 Games is motivated by a clear goal: to use the Games as a platform for national development. This will ensure that the event instills Olympic and Qatari values.

The IOC's updated selection procedure does not require the prospective countries and cities to publicly announce their bids, unlike in the past.
