The deadline for applications to the 4th iteration of M7's Zwara project is October 29. It was revealed on Instagram that the programming will be a crucial component of the 'Masterpieces of Furniture Design' exhibition, with a focus on furniture design and its influence on modern designers.
Zwara aims to stimulate innovation and encourage teamwork within the dynamic framework of Qatar's creative community. It lasts for around three to four months and acts as a spark for furniture designers to create prototypes based on the masterpieces that are on display. The course consists of a number of components, such as possibilities for skill development, intensive week-long residency, design and manufacturing stages, and guided tours.
Maha Al Sulaiti, the director of M7, stated her excitement about the program's development into furniture design, pointing out that it started out in the fashion industry. She emphasised their strong desire to inspire designers to pursue careers in furniture and interior design.
According to Al Sulaiti, the program's theme for this year is furniture and interior design, but for 2023, they already have sustainability in mind. She stated that M7 places a high priority on sustainability and is looking for ways to incorporate artisanal workmanship into the world of designers.
A number of new features will be included to this year's Zwara programme, such as focused incubation workshops, ongoing industry mentorship, and the development of prototype designs that will be displayed at the Zwara exhibition.
The goal of Zwara 4, which is in its fourth edition, is to connect up-and-coming Qatari designers in a range of design fields, including architecture, interior design, furniture design, interdisciplinary design, and product design. Potential designers will receive a particular design prompt and must reply within the allotted time. Applicants are required to submit a portfolio of their prior work in addition to a brief essay that addresses the subject.
