Al Meera Consumer Goods Company (Q.P.S.C) has received international recognition from IBXA the ‘International Business Excellence Awards 2023’ for its expanded and comprehensive sustainability activities in the retail sector in Qatar.
In this year’s edition, Al Meera was awarded the ‘Best Sustainability Initiative’ in acknowledgment of its performance in paying adequate attention to protecting and preserving the environment through its all-inclusive sustainability initiatives across its branches and its daily operations.
To win the award, Al Meera competed with world-class international companies, that showcased high sustainability standards.
In its efforts to translate the sustainability pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030 into action, Al Meera has led continuous campaigns to spread awareness of the best green practices and the importance of environmental sustainability in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program as a leading national retailer. To protect the environment from different kinds of pollution, the company has launched several innovative concepts, such as promoting reusable bags rather than single-use plastic bags, the introduction of reverse vending machines to recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans, paper recycling, beach cleanups with universities and government entities, battery recycling initiative, and the award-winning campaign “The Truth Bottle” which raised awareness on excess water consumption.
Finally, through its sustainability strategy across its 63 branches, Al Meera ensures that all cardboard in which products arrive at their allocated outlets is recycled and reused to minimize the volume of waste sent to the landfill.
