The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025, in collaboration with FIFA, has revealed BOMA the Desert Owl as the official tournament mascot. The character draws inspiration from legendary Serbian coach Velibor “Bora” Milutinovic, the only manager in history to lead five different national teams in five consecutive FIFA World Cups.
The name ‘Boma’, taken from the Arabic word for owl, symbolises wisdom, vision, and mentorship — qualities that reflect Bora’s remarkable legacy. It also serves as a playful tribute to his lasting impact on football development in Qatar and around the globe.
BOMA symbolises the spirit of a football scout — one who spots hidden talent and helps young players rise to the global stage. Inspired by Coach Bora Milutinovic, who led five nations in consecutive FIFA World Cups (1986–2002), the mascot also honours his time with Al Sadd SC, where he won the Amir Cup in 2004 and contributed greatly to Qatar’s football development.
