In the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2024, which was released by the World Bank in partnership with S&P Global Market Intelligence, Hamad Port, Qatar's primary gateway to international trade, achieved a new milestone by taking first place in the Gulf area and 11th place globally.
"This distinguished ranking serves as global recognition of Hamad Port's exceptional operational efficiency and high performance, reinforcing Qatar's standing as a key regional hub for trade and logistics," Mwani Qatar wrote in a post on its X platform Wednesday. Additionally, it emphasizes how important the port is to the country's economic development, establishing it as a reliable transshipment hub in the area and a crucial link in international supply networks.
Modern infrastructure and cutting-edge technologies at Hamad Port increase the effectiveness of Qatar's maritime facilities and help the country reach its National Vision 2030 objectives.
The index's 2024 edition assessed 403 container ports across the globe. It revealed that the Red Sea Crisis, difficulties at the Panama Canal, and shocks from the pandemic caused a general drop in port performance worldwide between 2020 and 2024. Uneven efficiency gains across regions and socioeconomic levels were also addressed in the report.
The time it takes for vessels to finish loading and unloading is a crucial indicator of operational efficiency and a crucial component in determining the robustness and dependability of international trade, the post added. The index bases its evaluations on a variety of data.
