Qatar announces two competitions for Local Dates Festival with QAR 97,000 prize pool

The Ministry of Municipality has announced two competitions for farms participating in the 11th Local Dates Festival at Souq Waqif, with a combined prize pool of QAR 97,000. The initiative aims to support Qatari farmers, improve agricultural marketing and promote high-quality local date production.

1. Best Visual Display Competition

Open to participating farms, the competition recognises excellence in stall presentation, marketing and customer engagement.

Evaluation criteria include:

- Festival participation and continuous attendance

- Innovative marketing and promotional offers

- Attractive stall presentation

- Visitor engagement and payment facilities

- Sales performance during the festival

Prizes:

1st: QAR 10,000

2nd: QAR 7,000

3rd: QAR 5,000

2. Golden Fresh Dates Basket Competition

The competition rewards the quality and presentation of locally grown fresh dates and will be held over five non-consecutive days.

Categories:

- Mixed fresh dates

- Shishi

- Barhi

- Khenaizi

- Khalas

Judging criteria:

- Ripeness

- Size and uniformity

- Basket presentation

- Freedom from defects

Daily prizes:

1st: QAR 7,000

2nd: QAR 5,000

3rd: QAR 3,000

A total of QAR 75,000 will be awarded across the five competition days.

Together, the two competitions offer QAR 97,000 in prizes, encouraging farms to enhance product quality, marketing and customer experience while promoting Qatar's agricultural sector.
