MoT promotes Park & Ride to ease traffic and support sustainable transport

The Ministry of Transport (MoT) is constantly urging drivers to use the Park & Ride service, which provides commuters with convenient and free parking close to important Doha Metro stations, as part of its efforts to encourage sustainable mobility and lessen traffic congestion throughout Doha.

The Park & Ride program, which was introduced as a component of the nation's Public Bus Infrastructure Program, enables drivers to drop off their automobiles at specified locations and continue their trip by taking the Doha Metro. The goal is to encourage the use of public transport, ease road congestion, and reduce environmental impact through lower carbon emissions.

Currently there are four main Park & Ride locations: Al Wakra, Al Qassar, Lusail, and Education City.

With a combined capacity of more than 1,000 vehicles, these Park and Ride locations were carefully chosen for their close proximity to busy metro stations. The service is totally free and provides a more affordable option than driving into central Doha during rush hour.

Facilities in Al Qassar and Al Wakra opened as part of the initiative's initial rollout in 2020. A major milestone in Qatar's integrated transport development was reached with the subsequent phases of the Lusail and Education City projects.

The Lusail Tram, e-buses, and the metro are just a few of the public transportation choices that the MoT continues to promote to both locals and tourists. One of the most important factors changing urban transportation is the Park & Ride program.
