Msheireb Museums will celebrate the 2023 International Museums Day by organising several events on Qatari heritage

The cultural and tourism hotspot Msheireb Downtown Doha will commemorate the 2023 International Museums Day by hosting a number of activities that showcase the local history of Qatar.

The first event will take place at Bin Jelmood House today, May 16, at 7 p.m., with the signing of Ibrahim Mohamed Jaidah's most recent book, Discovering Arabian Deco, which has won several awards. It displays never-before-seen images, blueprints, and constructions from his personal collection and the archives of the Arab Engineering Bureau (AEB).

A unique display of 3D printed replicas of the buildings mentioned in the book—which highlights the "Qatari Deco" movement that began in the 1960s—will be held in conjunction with the book signing. Starting on May 18, the models will be on display in the Mohammed Bin Jassim House Exhibition Space.

The Bin Jelmood Indoor Courtyard will host a day of science activities on May 18 for 45 elementary school-aged children, promoting the significance of STEM via exciting and entertaining activities.

The activities will be wrapped off on May 20 with a cultural evening called "Sarad: Details of the Past" that will include up-and-coming local musicians, writers, and poets. The event, which is sponsored by the Qalam Hebr and Msheireb Museums, will celebrate local nostalgia and recollections while highlighting the value of the Arabic language.

Since 1977, May 18 has been designated as International Museum Day. The goal of International Museum Day is to increase public awareness of museums as a sign of intercultural interaction and as a source of human understanding, collaboration, and peace.

As the first sustainable regeneration project in Qatar, Msheireb Downtown Doha, comes to life, Msheireb Museums represent a very important turning point for Msheireb Properties. The Museums in Msheireb Downtown Doha remember the past of four ancient heritage homes. They are an important element of Qatar's national heritage and are situated in the capital city's historic district. The community may interact with the major elements of Qatar's history and recollections of living before to the nation's fast economic development thanks to these rebuilt buildings and exhibition spaces.
