Mustaqel visas planned to be introduced in Qatar aims to attract freelancers, highly talented individuals, and entrepreneurs from across the world

A state-sponsored visa scheme called Mustaqel visas is being actively considered by Qatar to lure entrepreneurs, highly skilled people, and independent contractors to the country. Through the provision of specially designed visas that address their unique requirements, the initiative makes it easier for these people to remain in Qatar and expands the pool of workers that businesses may hire.

Talented people should be able to work and live in Qatar for five years under the new programme, with the option to extend their visa.

The new residence permit programme is expected to go online in the next few months. It is anticipated that foreign people will have the chance to invest and enjoy long-term stability in Qatar with the new resident permit. It also represents the country's ongoing attempts to draw in and keep entrepreneurs and gifted people.

Eligibility criteria

Talent category:

The candidate must:

  • Obtain an endorsement as a talented individual in one of the 13 designated categories, such as the arts, entertainment, sports, education, scientific research, development, or innovation, from a competent government authority in Qatar in order to be qualified under the talent category.
  • Possess a work offer or employment contract with a Qatari employer, or demonstrate that they have enough money saved up to sustain themselves until their immigration procedure is over.

Entrepreneur category:

To be eligible under the entrepreneur category:

  • One of Qatar's approved business incubators, such as the Qatar Science & Technology Park or Qatar Fintech Hub, must have approved the applicant's business proposal for an investment in Qatar.
  • There must be a minimum investment of QAR 250,000.

The new initiative that is being suggested is a great fit with the nation's aim to diversify its economy, establish a business-friendly and investor-friendly climate, and attract talented individuals and international investment.
