Qatar Foundation will showcase a range of innovative projects and initiatives that embody sustainability at Expo 2023 Doha

The Qatar Foundation (QF), which is dedicated to encouraging innovation and sustainable solutions, will have a big influence at Expo 2023 Doha. QF, led by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), is displaying a variety of creative projects and efforts under the topic "Local Innovations for Global Resilience." These projects and initiatives represent the university's commitment to sustainability within the Energy-Water-Environment (EWE) nexus, especially in dry regions.

Dr. Lawler underlined the importance of these developments in tackling global issues including growing water scarcity and desertification.

The use of hydroponics in desert agriculture is one of the major advances that will be highlighted. Dr. Lawler clarified that by preserving water and enhancing crop productivity, hydroponics holds the potential to completely transform agriculture in dry areas. This method is perfect for areas with limited water supplies since it removes dirt and grows plants in a nutrient-rich water solution.

Additionally, cutting-edge water treatment innovations created by HBKU will be on exhibit, allowing for conscientious water recycling and improving water quality while reducing worries about shortages. Furthermore, the circular economy idea will be shown by the transformation of several waste kinds into biochar, a soil conditioner.

Dr. Lawler stressed that these developments contribute to a greener and more sustainable future by encouraging not just environmental protection but also the development of a resilient and sustainable ecosystem in arid regions.

The topic of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning's contribution to agricultural sustainability was also covered in the interview. According to Dr. Al Ansari, data-driven decision-making is made possible by AI-driven agricultural research, which maximises resource utilisation. In order to improve agricultural monitoring, irrigation management, pest control, and yield prediction—and hence increase resource efficiency and food security in desert environments—sensors, drones, and data analytics are used.

The topic of "Green Desert, Better Environment" will also be the centrepiece of the Qatar Foundation pavilion at Expo 2023 Doha.

The Qatar Foundation will be participating by holding a number of speeches and workshops that will highlight initiatives and activities that are linked to the Expo's theme. Along with showcasing the experiences of students who have changed to more sustainable lifestyles, they will also launch a mentorship programme to assist guests on their life-changing path towards sustainability.
