Qatar ranks first globally in infrastructure and tertiary inbound mobility in 2026 GII


Qatar ranked first globally in General Infrastructure and Tertiary Inbound Mobility in WIPO’s 2026 Global Innovation Index (GII), placing 47th overall and rising 23 spots since 2020.

The country recorded its sixth consecutive year of improvement, with gains in infrastructure, education, digital access and innovation. Qatar also ranked among the top three regionally in Human Capital and Research, Institutions, Infrastructure, Market Sophistication and Business Sophistication, while remaining among the world’s top 10 in ICT Access.

Qatar rose five places in Knowledge and Technology Outputs and improved by two places in Creative Outputs, where it remained among the region’s top three.

The 19th Global Innovation Index, themed “Empowering Entrepreneurs at the Science Frontier,” assesses the innovation performance of around 139 economies.

The report highlights global innovation trends and advances in AI, biotechnology, advanced materials and clean energy, while examining how scientific discoveries can drive scalable, high-impact start-ups.
