Qatari high jumper Mutaz Essa Barsham won the third Asian Games gold medal on Wednesday

Mutaz Essa Barsham of Qatar won his third Asian Games gold medal on Wednesday at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium. In order to win the championship in China, the incumbent Olympic and three-time World high jump champion created a new Games record of 2.35m. Woo Sanghyeok (2.33) of South Korea and Shinno Tomohiro (2.29) of Japan finished second and third, respectively.

Qatar's show jumping team of Faleh Alajami, Khalifa Al Thani, Rashid Al Marri, and Bassem Mohammed finished second overall with a timing of 229.96sec, after Saudi Arabia (220.86sec). The UAE came in third place (226.84). To determine the victors, the three competed in a three-way jump-off. Saudi Arabia finished the jump-off in 111.83 seconds, Qatar in 117.84 seconds (four faults), and the UAE in 120.58 seconds (12 faults).

Abderrahman Samba, Ashraf Osman, Ismail Abakar, and Bassem Hemeida of Qatar won silver with a season-best time of 3min 2.05sec. Sri Lanka finished third (3:02.55), while India took gold (3:01.58).

Qatar now has 13 medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games, including four gold, six silver, and three bronze.
