Aster Healthcare launched activities to mark Qatar Patient Safety Week

Aster DM Healthcare, Qatar's largest private healthcare chain, has launched a series of activities to celebrate World Patient Safety Day and the annual Qatar Patient Safety Week from 17-22 September 2022.

Qatar Patient Safety Week is organized by the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) and is a national initiative and education campaign aimed at raising awareness of medication safety among patients and workers in health care institutions in Qatar.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), drug harm accounts for 50% of all preventable harm in medical care.

"The Aster campaign is designed to support the concerted efforts of the current WHO Global Patient Safety Challenge: Medicine Without Harm, emphasizing the need to adopt a systems approach to prevent medication errors and reduce medication-related harm and promote safe medication practices," Kapil said. Chib, COO of Aster.

“High-risk situations, transitions of care and polypharmacy are key areas of activity. It is imperative that healthcare institutions implement and adhere to these practices to ensure quality care and patient safety. At Aster, we believe in providing quality care,” added the COO.

Medicines are the most widely used interventions in health care, and medicine-related harm accounts for the largest proportion of overall preventable harm, regardless of the financial and psychological burdens of unsafe care.

The campaign aims to empower patients and encourage health and social care staff to recognize their roles and responsibilities in ensuring medicines are used safely.
