Doha has been named the world’s fastest city for mobile internet speeds among tourist destinations in 2026, according to a study by mobile data specialists Holafly.
The Qatari capital topped the global ranking, underscoring its status as a technologically advanced and highly connected destination for international travellers. Rather than relying on theoretical speed benchmarks, the study assessed real-world performance by measuring the time required to download a one-gigabyte city map using average local mobile internet speeds.
The findings showed that Doha achieved an average mobile download speed of 354.5 Mbps, enabling a one-gigabyte map to be downloaded in under three seconds. This placed the city ahead of other major tourism hubs, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Holafly highlighted that high-speed mobile connectivity enhances essential travel activities such as navigation, ride-hailing, language translation and social media usage, all of which are integral to today’s travel experience. The study also pointed to a stark gap between top-performing cities and destinations with slower mobile networks.
The recognition reflects Qatar’s continued investment in mobile infrastructure, driven by the expansion of 5G networks and ongoing upgrades to network capacity and coverage, further strengthening Doha’s reputation as a connected, visitor-friendly global city.
