Five seasonal vegetable markets have reopened for the agricultural season 2023-24 offering fresh vegetables and herbs from local farms

For the agricultural season 2023–24, the Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Agricultural Affairs Department, has reopened all five seasonal vegetable markets, providing a substantial supply of fresh vegetables and herbs from nearby farms.

Speaking to journalists at Al Mazrouah, Ahmed Al Yafei, Head of Guidance and Services Section of Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality, stated that "over 140 local farms will participate in the markets which are called yards for selling local agricultural produce."

According to him, agricultural items are sold at competitive rates directly to consumers in Al Mazrouah, Al Khor-Al Thakhira, Al Wakrah, Al Sheehaniya, and Al Shamal markets. These markets do not use intermediaries.

According to him, to boost regional output, the Ministry of Municipality provides Qatari farmers with equipment, seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides in addition to agricultural assistance and supervision.

Local farmers may offer their products to customers directly and without the need for middlemen thanks to the marketing platform these marketplaces give them. Because the farmers receive free marketing services, the prices of vegetables at these markets are less than the prices listed in the daily bulletin.

The agricultural products on exhibit at the market are closely inspected to ensure they fulfil the necessary health requirements and standards. For example, the produce must be of the highest calibre and free of pesticide residues. Vegetable samples are routinely brought to the labs to verify the quality of the crop.

Markets were prepared by the Ministry's Agricultural Affairs Department so that nearby farmers could sell their produce. By giving farmers free market stalls and boxes for promoting vegetables, the Department allowed farmers to sell directly to consumers and earn a healthy profit for their labour and investment.
