In a new circular released on August 11, 2025, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) requires all vehicle sales in Qatar to abstain from marketing, selling, or advertising new or used automobiles that do not meet the Gulf Standard Specifications. This action aims to safeguard customers from commercial fraud and maintain the market for high-end products in the automotive industry.
Applying to all commercial vehicle types, including car showrooms and online sales platforms, this circular No. (02) of 2025 highlights the significance of following the authorized Gulf Standard Specifications.
This circular does not apply to automobiles imported for private use; rather, it is directed at commercial vehicles supplied through Qatari vehicle shops. Selling, displaying, offering, promoting, advertising, supplying, or trading automobiles that do not meet the required standard criteria is strictly forbidden under this circular.
The Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology (QGOSM) employs 128 qualified professionals and technicians to create the Gulf Standard Specifications.
Vendors can check them on the ISO website or by clicking this link. If the vehicles do not meet standard criteria, vendors are required by the same regulation to pay the customer. To maintain consumer-provider confidence, the Ministry urges all merchants and commercial establishments to collaborate by strictly adhering to the guidelines in this circular.
The Ministry further cautioned that in order to guarantee the implementation of laws and the defense of consumer rights, those who violate them would face the appropriate legal processes.
The Ministry invites all residents and citizens to report any infractions or abuses by calling their dedicated hotline, 16001, or by sending them a message on their MOCI social media sites.
