The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has issued a reminder to motorists about proper child seating in vehicles, stressing that child safety is a duty, not a choice.
According to Clause (3) of Article (55) of the Traffic Law, allowing children under ten to sit in the front seat is a traffic violation and a major safety hazard. The Ministry warned that in case of an accident, children under ten seated in the front are eight times more likely to suffer serious injuries than adults.
The Ministry explained that airbags, built to protect adults, can be dangerous for children because of their force and the child’s smaller frame.
Officials stressed that children must always ride in the back seat, secured in a child safety seat suitable for their age and weight, with seatbelts fastened at all times.
The Ministry also warned against ever leaving children unattended inside vehicles, regardless of the situation.
