A nationwide initiative to renovate 18 public beaches nationwide was recently launched by the Ministry of Municipality; it includes food trucks, more covered areas, kid-friendly play areas, and improved accessibility throughout.
The first phase has now covered eight beaches: Simaisma, Al Wakra, Sealine, Al Farkia, Al Ghariyah, Safa Al Touq, and Al Kharaij, according to Abdulaziz Al Rumaihi, Director of Projects Management and Development. In partnership with Ashghal, other towns, and even private companies, more beaches are going to join the glow-up.
There are 300 covered seating areas, playgrounds with soft sand flooring, designated restaurant and food cart spaces, wooden umbrellas (especially for those with disabilities), and new trees and planting at the entrances and walkways to improve their aesthetic appeal. rThe beaches are being prepared for the hot season with great care. In order to maintain the highest standards of hygiene in spaces like restrooms and prayer rooms, this calls for more first-aid stations, shady play areas, and 24-hour cleaning teams.
Additionally, the Ministry is launching marketing campaigns to draw attention to new offerings and monthly gatherings (such as those at Beach 974). to increase the number of local visitors and transform beaches into sustainable, safe, and clean places to be.
Green areas, solar-powered lights, and continuous maintenance based on real-time visitor feedback will all be added in future upgrades.
