When it comes to using in-flight Wi-Fi access, Qatar Airways, the largest airline in the world to offer Starlink's high-speed internet onboard, is the best. As one of the fastest and most ambitious Starlink installations in the aviation industry, the airline's quick deployment further solidifies its leadership in in-flight innovation.
With median download speeds of 120.6 Mbps, Ookla's latest analysis demonstrates Qatar Airways' superior in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity, the airline said in a recent statement on its X platform.
The report went on to say that Qatar Airways offers more information because it runs aircraft with geostationary orbit (GEO) connection in addition to using Starlink as one of its connectivity service providers.
The multiserver latency data best illustrate this. Although Qatar's median latency is comparable to that of Hawaiian carriers, it is still in the same league as other GEO-supported carriers due to its significantly higher 10th percentile, or the laggiest experience.
Qatar Airways revealed in February of this year that it had installed Starlink on its 30th aircraft, completing the installation of Starlink on more than half of its Boeing 777 fleet.
In order to reduce the retrofit time by almost three-quarters of the original timeframe, Qatar Airways has drastically accelerated its Starlink rollout, decreasing the installation time per aircraft from three or two days to only 9.5 hours.
