Qatar cities, parks and beaches all ready for World Cup

Qatar's cities and municipalities are fully ready to welcome fans from all over the world to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and The Ministry of Municipality has ensured this to the minute details.

The Ministry has already completed most of its projects  for beautification of roads, public parks, beaches, and other projects related to food quality and public hygiene.

“This is the result of hard work by the Ministry with its five main sectors during last 12 years since Qatar won the right to host the mega sporting event,” said Minister of Municipality H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie. 

Al Majlis programme of Alkass TV channel yesterday hosted the Minister and a number of senior officials including undersecretaries, heads of the departments and municipalities to discuss the preparations of the Ministry for the World Cup.

The Minister said one of the major achievement of the Ministry is to host FIFA World Cup for first time in a country whose all cities are accredited as ‘Healthy Cities’ by the World Health Organization (WHO).   

He said the Ministry contributed greatly in planning development and providing lands for developing infrastructures projects for the World Cup. 

“In the beginning, Planning Development Office was set up to coordinate with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Qatar Rail, Public Works Authority (Asghal) and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation ( Kahramaa) to provide plots of lands for the projects related to the World Cup,” said the Minister.

He said the Ministry being the largest service provider in the public sector will provide all municipal services to the World Cup.  Director of Technical Department at the Ministry, Eng Tariq Al Tamimi, said: “We in coordination with other authorities concerned intensified efforts during the past period on beautification works focusing on key areas.”

He said Central Doha and West Bay, which are expected to host huge number of fans during World Cup, were prioritised for beautification works.

“The focus was also on roads leading to stadiums and areas from Corniche to C Rig Roads, totalling about 26 streets,” said Al Tamimi.

He said the beautification works included maintenance and painting of buildings and providing services. He said maintenance work has been carried out at 700 buildings  so far.  Officials from other Ministry departments including public parks and beaches also shared preparations made by their respective departments for the World Cup.
