Minister of Transport HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani oversaw the successful trial of Qatar’s first urban passenger flight using an unmanned eVTOL, marking a major step toward smart and sustainable mobility.
The air taxi test is part of a series of evaluations supervised by the Ministry to assess the technology’s capabilities and future deployment. The flight, conducted between Old Doha Port and Katara Cultural Village, operated entirely autonomously through an AI-driven control system and advanced air navigation technologies, demonstrating safe and efficient use of Qatar’s airspace.
The unmanned air taxi initiative will roll out in multiple stages, taking into account all technical, operational, and regulatory needs. This includes ensuring infrastructure preparedness, validating operational systems, and fulfilling all safety, security, and quality standards so the new transport mode can be introduced smoothly and safely into Qatar’s mobility network.
