Qatar participated in the 20th Session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in India, from December 8 to 13, with a delegation led by Minister of Culture H.E. Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani.
The Arab “Bisht” was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List, marking the first joint Arab nomination led by Qatar with nine participating countries. This milestone underscores the importance of Gulf and Arab heritage and Qatar’s efforts to preserve traditional crafts, especially bisht-making, a symbol of social and national identity.
