Qatar’s Ministry of Interior (MOI) has released evacuation and safety guidelines for educational institutions to strengthen preparedness and ensure safe responses during emergencies.
Before Emergencies:
Familiarise students and staff with exits and assembly points
Keep evacuation routes clear
Identify safety equipment and provide training
Raise age-appropriate awareness among students
When Alerts Are Issued:
Stop activities immediately and stay calm
Follow the National Warning System instructions
Comply with directions from officials
Appropriate Action:
Internal danger (e.g. fire): evacuate immediately
External danger: remain in safe areas (shelter-in-place)
During Evacuation:
Use stairs only, avoid elevators
Do not collect personal belongings
Move calmly without pushing
Proceed to designated assembly points
Staff Responsibilities:
Ensure safe and orderly evacuation
Confirm all areas are cleared
Conduct headcounts and report missing students
Support and reassure students
Student Guidelines:
Kindergarten: close supervision and emotional support
School students: move in organised groups
University students: follow guidance and avoid risks
At Assembly Points:
Go directly to assigned locations
Stay until further instructions
Report emergencies if any
The Ministry emphasised that staying calm and following official instructions are key to ensuring everyone’s safety.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has announced a phased return to in-person classes at educational institutions, beginning March 24, 2026.
Full on-site attendance for students in schools and kindergartens will resume on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
