Qatar Museums celebrated the 10th anniversary of the inscription of Al Zubarah Archeological Site as a Unesco World Heritage Site

Qatar Museums (QM) commemorated the tenth anniversary of the Al Zubarah Archaeological Site's designation as a Unesco World Heritage Site, In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event highlighted the successes and difficulties of the previous ten years and promoted international cooperation for the continuous preservation of Al Zubarah's history and cultural legacy.

Bandar bin Mohammed al-Attiyah, Qatar's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Dr. Nassir al-Hinzab, Salah Khaled, director and representative of the Unesco Doha Office for Gulf States and Yemen, Lazare Eloundou Assomo, and other official representatives were present.

Al Zubarah, which dates to the late 18th century and was a prosperous harbour during the age of the pearl trade, stands as a witness to the area's colourful history. Its distinctive architectural design and urban arrangement provide a window into the seafaring and commerce activities that defined the region's history. Due to its extraordinary preservation and portrayal of a historic commercial port, Al Zubarah was added to the Unesco World Heritage List in 2013 in recognition of its high worth.

QM has been at the forefront of extensive conservation initiatives, to protect the buildings, artefacts, and environment of Al Zubarah during the past ten years. Numerous restoration initiatives have been successfully finished, maintaining the landmark's authenticity and integrity.

The awareness of Al Zubarah's history has expanded because of QM's engagement with universities and educational institutions to present workshops, lectures, and seminars. For Al Zubarah's future development, QM has set a vision that aims to improve tourist experiences, increase educational options, and further increase the site's popularity across the world.

The neighbouring local villages of Al Zubarah have also contributed significantly to its maintenance and promotion, demonstrating a great feeling of pride in their cultural legacy. Through this relationship, the site's significance has grown both nationally and within the international community.

The occasion demonstrates Qatar's dedication to safeguarding its cultural legacy and elevating its historical significance on a worldwide scale. It aims to instill a sense of pride and responsibility in local and international populations for preserving this outstanding historical landmark for coming generations.
