Qatar Museums continue to engage the public with a diverse list of public programming throughout October

Throughout the month of October, Qatar Museums will continue to engage the public with a variety of public programmes, including kid-friendly design workshops, reading clubs, drop-in family sessions, and art workshops. Events will be held at a number of locations, including The Museum of Islamic Art, the National Museum of Qatar, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, and M7.

The Museum of Islamic Art

This October, the Museum of Islamic Art is hosting a variety of free programmes, including a treasure hunt, a story-telling session, and a family day with a theme.

October 3 - Reading Goals 

For kids who are interested in football and the world of sports, Reading Goals is a monthly storytime event. There will be reading, sports-themed crafts, and more. The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM activity Football for Development, which addresses social concerns from all around the world in an educational context, will also be experienced by participants.

October 7 - Saturday Colouring in the Library 

Spend a leisurely Saturday colouring intriguing Islamic patterns with your family at the MIA Library.

Timing: 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

October 14 - Family Day - Water 

Join at MIA Park to learn more about the value of water and explore it in relation to the extensive collection of the museum.

Timing: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

October 17 - Treasure Hunt 

Join for a treasure hunt adventure to learn more about MIA's items in an enjoyable, thrilling, and educational programme. One of the programmes and a wonderful method to learn about the history of Islamic art is MIA Treasure Hunt. Email [email protected] for reservations and inquiries.qa.

October 30 - Planet Kids Club - The Very Hungry Caterpillar 

Join for different activities monthly, all created under an overarching theme of protecting our planet. There are environmental-themed storytimes, various arts and crafts activities, and informative portions about museum artefacts waiting for your kids. With just 30 spots available, the programme is presented in both English and Arabic. Email [email protected] with any questions or booking requests.qa.

National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ)

Along with a new exhibition titled Growing Kopi, Drinking Qahwa: Stories of Coffee in Qatar and Indonesia, the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) will host a new storytelling session in its heritage garden and host several coffee-related events throughout the month of October.

October 7 - The Valley of Colocynth 

Learn about Wadhah's search for Colocynth by attending NMoQ's storytelling session. Children may make their own homemade souvenir of the story to take home after hearing it from our charming storyteller.

October 25 - Coffee in Qatar and Indonesia 

Take part in a fascinating talk on the coffee cultures of Indonesia and Qatar and explore distinctive customs and enthralling histories. 

Timing: 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm

October 27 - Indonesian Night 

Enjoy a night of music and dance, a dazzling Batik fashion show, and the rich culture of Indonesia by experiencing an enchanting Indonesian Night at the National Museum of Qatar at Darwish Al Far auditorium.

Timing: 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

October 28 - Brewing & Storytelling Competition 

Showcase your coffee artistry in brewing competition and win recognition, prizes, and the hearts of coffee lovers. 

Timing: 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm

October 30-31 - A Story of Arabic Coffee 

Participants will gain knowledge about the origins of Arabic coffee as well as Qatari customs, rituals, and tools for making and serving gahwa. As a component of the trip, they will get to sample it. Make a reservation by emailing [email protected].

3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum  

In addition to offering its regularly scheduled school-age guided tours, the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum is hosting a writing contest and weekly storytelling sessions in October.

Storytelling Sessions - Every Saturday 

3-2-1 QOSM will hold a story telling session every Saturday in October for children aged 7-11. The sessions in Arabic and English and are held from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm.

QOSM Guided School Tours

Every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday 

A guided tour that gives students and educators a thorough understanding of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum's permanent exhibitions. The following permanent galleries are included in this tour, which covers a variety of topics: Global Sport Nation, Hall of Athletes, Olympic History, World Sport Nation, and Qatar Sports Culture. 321 Writing Competition for Schools

Deadline: October 31 

All students in Grades 7-9 are invited to participate in QOSM's first-ever annual creative competition, 321 Write, where they may demonstrate their writing prowess and share their experiences and views. Students in grades 7-9 are eligible to participate, and the theme is "Qatar as a Hosting Nation for Sports Events." Visit 321qosm.org.qa for additional details.

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art 

Mathaf: The Arab Museum of Modern Art will conduct a variety of youth and children's art workshops in October, including many brand-new classes that include sculpture and contemporary art.

Making Faces: Mixed-Media Sculpting for Young Artists

October 14 & 28 

Mathaf's two-day class will enable children ages 5-7 to investigate sustainability, acquire art language, and make mixed-media sculptures. It is inspired by the works of Iraqi American artist Michael Rakowitz. Students will be taken on a guided tour of a themed gallery on day one, followed by a sculpture lesson. On day two, they will paint and embellish their sculptures with recycled materials.

Art Making in Manara

October 18 & 25 

Each course at Artmaking in Manara is a surprise and involves learning about many facets of Modern Art while producing your own pieces of art. Participants in this 2-day workshop for 13–16-year-olds will gain knowledge and create landscape art that is influenced by Lebanese artist Etel Adnan.

*Students must be present for both days in order to finish their assignments.

Art workshop / Manara

October 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 

Children will learn various art methods in a weekly programme where they may use various materials to express their creativity.

Art Lessons with Ismael Azzam

Every Sunday and Monday 

For a new season of Art Lessons at Mathaf, join artist Ismael Azzam at Manara Studio - Mathaf to explore portrait drawing methods using pencil, charcoal, and paint.

Throughout the length of the Masterpieces of Furniture Design exhibition, M7, Qatar's hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in fashion and design, will offer a dynamic schedule of public activities to engage the general audience.

October 7 - Vitra Playhouse

In this workshop Children will be invited to tour the exhibition to learn about interior design basics and gain inspiration from the furniture pieces displayed. They will be given printed objects to create a full room.

Timing: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

October 21 - 100% Cardboard

Children will learn about interior design and sustainability in this programme. They will be given cardboard to construct a piece of furniture that is entirely made of cardboard and is inspired by the show.

Timing: 11:00 am - 01:00 pm

October 25 - M7 Speaker Series - Crafting Spaces Talk

A panel discussion with Abdulrahman AlMuftah, Dr Thomas Modeen, Shua'a Ali, Amanda and Jo Booabood that highlights Doha's burgeoning design scene and the creators driving the way in the field of interior and product design.
