Qatar Olympic Committee celebrates its 45th anniversary contributing to the remarkable growth of the Qatari sports

The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), which was established on March 14, 1979, and celebrated its 45th anniversary. Since its founding, QOC has been actively involved in promoting sports awareness in Qatar, growing the Olympic movement in accordance with the principles of the Olympic Charter, and encouraging sports excellence. All of these efforts have contributed to the remarkable growth of the Qatari sports scene over the past 45 years.

Eight Olympic medals, including two gold, two silver, and four bronze, were the most notable accomplishment of the QOC's efforts, which led to unparalleled sports success on a number of levels.

In addition, the Qatari teams had several additional noteworthy appearances in regional, Asian, and international competitions. 

In keeping with the goal of the Qatar Olympic Committee, "let us be a pioneering nation that unites the world through sustainable sports development," the State of Qatar has continued to host a number of major sporting events, establishing itself as a global sports capital.

Being the host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 1995 was one of the State of Qatar's greatest international accomplishments.

The 15th Asian Games were successfully hosted by Qatar in 2006, making it the first Arab nation to organise such a significant athletic event.

As the first nation in the Middle East and Arab world to be chosen to host a major international event, the State of Qatar stunned the globe in 2022 by organising the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

In 2015, Qatar once again made an impression on the globe by hosting the Men's Handball globe Championship. The Qatari team, who came in second place, became the first Asian and Arab team to reach the World Championship podium since its establishment.

In addition, Qatar served as the host country for the FIFA Club World Cup in 2019 and 2020, the World Judo Championships in 2023, the World Aquatics Championships in 2024, the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 2010, the World Boxing Championships in 2015, the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 2018, the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) World Beach Games in 2019, and the World Athletics Championships in 2019.

In addition to hosting the 2027 Basketball World Cup, which will be contested for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa, the State of Qatar was awarded the hosting rights for the 21st Asian Games in 2030. The State of Qatar previously hosted the Games in 2006.
