The pioneering initiative "Regenerative Propulsion in the Doha Metro: Kinetic Energy to Electrical Energy" by Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) earned the esteemed CIHT Decarbonization Award 2025, which was given by the UK-based Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).
This accomplishment strengthened Qatar Rail's standing as a pioneer in sustainability and environmental innovation in the public transportation industry. Over 480 international executives and transportation professionals attended the CIHT Annual Awards Ceremony, which took place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, where the prize was presented.
The CIHT Decarbonization Award honored exceptional international initiatives and tactics that resulted in noticeable decreases in carbon footprints and greenhouse gas emissions. The distinction is particularly noteworthy because the initiative was chosen from a record number of submissions this year, with only six bids considered for the final stage.
