Qatar tops the list of fastest-growing holiday destinations

Qatar has emerged as the world’s fastest-growing holiday destination, according to recent reports by The Telegraph and Travel Off Path.

Drawing on data from the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), both publications note that Qatar has recorded the highest growth in international arrivals since 2019 — surpassing every other country in terms of tourism expansion.

As per The Telegraph, the nation’s visitor numbers have soared by 138% since 2019, rising from 2.1 million to over 5 million in 2024. The report attributes this remarkable growth to Qatar’s extensive post-World Cup developments — from world-class museums and resorts to major infrastructure and cultural projects — that have firmly positioned it as a global travel hotspot.

Travel Off Path also ranks Qatar as the fastest-growing tourist destination, citing a 137.62% rise in international arrivals between 2019 and 2024, based on UNWTO data. This surge—from 2.1 million visitors in 2019 to over 5 million in 2024—outpaces many established destinations, which have seen slower recovery post-pandemic.

Qatar’s growth is driven by post-2022 FIFA World Cup investments, including stadiums, museums, resorts, and enhanced transport links, alongside global visibility from major events. Hamad International Airport’s improved connectivity has further boosted capacity and access. While Gulf neighbors still account for many visitors, Europe, Asia, and the UK are increasingly represented. Oxford Business Group notes a 25% increase in 2024 over 2023, highlighting sustained growth beyond pandemic rebounds.
