Qatari handball team achieved a major victory in its second match in the Asian men’s handball qualifiers for the 33rd Summer Olympic Games

In its second match of the Asian men's handball qualifications for the 33rd Summer Olympic Games (Paris 2024), which are presently being contested in Doha and will run through October 28, 2023, the Qatari handball team defeated its Indian opponent with a score of 48/14 today. This excellent outcome shows that the Qatari team had no real problems winning the match because of the huge level gap that separated them from the Indian team, which could not compete with them. The Qatari team asserted its total dominance throughout the play.

Due to their dominance, the Qatari squad had a twenty-goal advantage at the end of the first half. 26/6 before extending the lead in the second half and winning by 34 goals in the end. The Qatari squad defeated the Chinese team 34/25 in its opening match yesterday, increasing its lead in the Group A standings to four points.

The national team of Qatar will play its third encounter against the United Arab Emirates the day after tomorrow. Next Sunday, it will play its fourth match against South Korea, and on Tuesday, it will wrap out its group stage matches against Saudi Arabia.

The Asian men's handball qualifications for the 33rd Summer Olympic Games in Paris 2024, which will take place in Doha, will include eleven teams. The teams from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the Emirates, India, and China are in the first group; the teams from Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Japan, and Kazakhstan are in the second group.

The top two players in each group advance to the semi-finals, which take place on October 26. In these matches, the top two players from the first group will play the top two from the second group, and the top two players from the second group will play the top two from the first group. The winners of these matches will advance to the ticket final on October 28.

The winner of the qualifications will be the only one eligible to compete in the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024; the runner-up will advance to a playoff in March of next year. After qualifying for the Rio Olympics in Brazil in 2016—the first-ever Olympic qualification in Qatari handball history—and taking first place in the qualifiers held in Doha in 2015, the Qatari team is hoping to earn a qualification card for the Olympics once more.

Qatar has hosted the Asian men's handball Olympic qualifying tournament three times in a row: in 2015, it played home to the Rio 2016 Olympic qualifying tournament, and in 2019, it hosted the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifying tournament.
