Qatari mothers in government roles to be granted reduced working hours

According to a Civil Service and Government Development Bureau post on X, the Council of Ministers has approved a proposal to shorten official working hours for mothers of Qatari children and mothers of Qatari mothers working for government agencies.

The decision made during the Cabinet's 28th meeting in 2025, which followed the success of a pilot project aimed at improving work-life balance, underlines Qatar's commitment to promote families and increase the role of women in the workplace while guaranteeing greater flexibility. Accordingly, the President of the Bureau published Circular No. (6) of 2025.

Eligible female employees will be allowed to leave work two hours prior to the official conclusion of the working day during certain academic year times, according the ruling.

In addition to midterm exams for the first and second semesters, these also include mid-year school breaks and end-of-year exams.

Employees employed by organizations whose operations necessitate ongoing operations until the official conclusion of the working day will not be subject to the new law, the Bureau clarified.

This action is a component of Qatar's continuous efforts to encourage more adaptable work practices, assist Qatari families, and strengthen the harmony between work and family obligations.
