QNB introduces UPI QR Code payments across Qatar in partnership with NIPL

QNB has made it possible for its merchant clients using NETSTARS' payment system to accept the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) based on QR codes throughout Qatar through point-of-sale (POS) terminals in collaboration with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL).

Senior executives from QNB Group and Qatar Airways Group, along with Indian Ambassador to Qatar H E Vipul, attended a special ceremony at QNB to commemorate this important milestone. The ceremony focused on the two countries' strong bilateral cooperation and dedication to improving payment convenience for Indian travelers.

The first merchant to go live on UPI was Qatar Duty Free (QDF), a division of the Qatar Airways Group. This allowed Indian tourists, who make up the second-largest percentage of visits to the nation, to pay easily at duty-free shops and enhance their shopping experience.

By eliminating the need to carry cash and the bother of currency exchange, this step would also enable them to make UPI payments at the nation's main tourist destinations with ease, facilitating real-time transactions.

UPI's worldwide reach is increased and interoperability is encouraged by its approval in Qatar. Additionally, it is anticipated to help Qatar's retail and tourism industries since the adoption of UPI will boost transaction volumes for businesses, allowing them to grow while providing clients with convenience.
