Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet has approved a high-speed electric railway linking Riyadh and Doha, paving the way for a 785km cross-border line that will cut travel time between the two capitals to around two hours. Trains are expected to exceed 300km/h, making rail competitive with short-haul flights.
The agreement was signed during the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council meeting in Riyadh, co-chaired by Mohammed bin Salman and Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Al Yamamah Palace.
The line will pass through cities including Al-Hofuf and Dammam, linking King Salman International Airport with Hamad International Airport. The fully electric project is expected to serve over 10 million passengers annually, create around 30,000 jobs, and be completed within six years.
