Technology and research are driving sustainability and a greener future in Qatar as per officials

As revealed by officials, cutting-edge technology aimed at easing the transition to a low-carbon economy is near to commercial usage as part of Qatar's sustainability agenda.

Officials from Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD), and the Global Carbon Council (GCC) spoke to the media yesterday during a roundtable on Sustainability and Carbon Neutrality: Transition to a Low-Carbon Economy; Journey to Net Zero. They discussed how technology and research are promoting sustainability and a greener future in the nation.

Synergia, a unique fresh air handling system created to cool and ventilate open and enclosed rooms with little carbon impact, has completed laboratory testing and piloting, and Dr. Yousef Al Horr, Founder and Chairman of GORD, revealed it aims to be ready in two months.

Al Horr cites GORD as having created a technical approach for CO2 collection and use to create construction materials. According to Dr. Al Horr, the technique also collects brine from desalination facilities and CO2 emissions. It may be used to make gypsum board to generate white cement after being treated. The parts for the pilot plant that will use this technology have been developed and produced, and it will shortly be put into service.

According to Dr. Al Horr, GORD has also released intellectual software to aid in the shift to a low-carbon economy. Arcadia Suite is one of the programs used to evaluate the energy efficiency of district cooling units.

The programme, which was only recently widely released in the US, has been tested on 2000 projects in Qatar, and its database includes climatic information for more than 9000 places throughout the world.

In the upcoming weeks, Energia Suite, another piece of software, will also be released. The programme is used to evaluate the energy efficiency of buildings other than district cooling plants, such as homes, businesses, hospitals, and other types of buildings.
