QatarEnergy has inked a deal with Samsung C&T's Engineering & Construction Group (Samsung C&T) to build a world-scale solar power facility at Dukhan, approximately 80 kilometers west of Doha.
The Dukhan solar power plant, one of the world's largest, will be built in two phases, with a total electricity output capacity of 2,000 megawatts (MW) by mid-2029. Once completed, it would increase Qatar's solar power production capacity, making a substantial contribution to the country's renewable energy targets.
During a special ceremony at QatarEnergy's headquarters in Doha, His Excellency Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of QatarEnergy, and Sechul Oh, President and CEO of Samsung C&T, signed the agreement. HE Abdulla bin Ali Al-Theyab, President of Kahramaa, attended the event, as did senior executives from both firms.
The Dukhan solar power project will begin its first phase of production by delivering 1,000 MW of power to the KAHRAMAA grid around the end of 2028. The new facility will use a solar tracker system and will increase efficiency by installing inverters that can operate flawlessly in high-temperature conditions.
