Fixing charges, areas, technicalities to regulate public parking, to be decided soon by Ministry

According to a top official, a ministerial decision regulating public parking costs and locations, among many other issues, should be released shortly. The ruling will concern the application of Law No. 13 of 2021 concerning car parking regulations, which gives the Ministry of Municipality the authority to manage public parking lots in Qatar.

The nation's parking management programme strives to improve the quality of life in urban areas and residential communities by meeting a variety of goals. The most noticeable of these positive signs is the reduction of traffic in congested areas through parking space organisation and efficient utilisation. Along with improving traffic safety and lowering infractions associated with improper parking, the initiative also seeks to promote the use of public transit alkkms a means of lowering emissions, pollution, and traffic congestion on the roadways.

This would also boost the return on infrastructure investment, which can be used to fund development projects, assist national economic growth, and combat the issue of abandoned automobiles. It will also aid in the best possible utilisation of the state's land and road resources.

Under the Smart Qatar Programme (TASMU) project, work is being done to ensure a smart parking management system that handles all aspects of the mechanism of reserving parking, collecting charges for it, controlling violations, and applying penalties in accordance with the law and ministerial decisions.

In the first phase, the Ministry of Municipality's Technical Office collaborated with Ashghal to install electronic signboards and parking stickers, outlining public parking for the designated planning zones.

In order to guarantee that the systems for smart parking management are installed in accordance with the contract, this is being done in conjunction with the TASMU team at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the project contractor.
