Public-Private Partnership in Qatar launches first sewage treatment project

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani signed a public-private partnership to undertake a sewage treatment plant project in the cities of Al Wakrah and Al Wukair at the Sheraton Doha Hotel on Sunday morning.

A public-private partnership was signed between the Public Works Authority (Ashgal), Al Atiya Motors and Trading Company, Metito Utilities Limited (Metito) and the direct investment group of the Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC).

The signing ceremony included a documentary on the sewage treatment plant, treated sewage networks and stages of development of sustainable sewage treatment infrastructure nationwide and a visual presentation on the importance of the role of the private sector as a strategic partner. Public sector in driving the cycle of economic growth in Qatar.

The signing ceremony was attended by distinguished sheikhs and ministers, as well as ambassadors accredited to Qatar, high-ranking officials and representatives of local and regional companies.

It is the first wastewater treatment project to be undertaken under a public-private partnership in the State of Qatar and the largest ever to be undertaken in partnership with the private sector, apart from the energy sector.
