Qatar tops in MENA region in "Share of Populations with Convenient Access to Public Transport'

According to the International Association of Public Transport's (UITP) 'MENA Transport Report 2025' published by the Centre for Transport Excellence, Qatar leads the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with a 'Share of Populations with Convenient Access to Public Transport' at 91.7%, the Ministry of Transport said in a statement on Tuesday. This year's edition covered public transportation systems in 40 cities in 14 MENA nations, expanding its reach.
Doha has the most kilometers per million population (64 km/m). It also has the third-highest number of public buses per million population in the world (969 buses/million population).
Doha has 278 metro cars per million residents, ranking fourth in the world in terms of metro network fleet.
According to the UITP research, Qatar, along with Amsterdam, Geneva, and Singapore, is ranked in the top 20 countries in the world for the user experience of public transportation.
Qatar is among the most efficient nations in terms of public transportation fares based on purchasing power parity (PPP). It has one of the best rankings in the MENA area for the environmental sustainability of its transportation system.
Qatar is one of the top nations in terms of smart infrastructure for public transportation, with an integrated network backed by sustainable facilities and digital transformation.
Lusail Tram is a notable example of ambitious urban development, according to the report. Lusail tramway network is a forward-looking vision to improve urban mobility, serving the smart city of Lusail, which has the highest rates of kilometers per one million residents when compared to similar cities.
Lusail is home to the largest e-bus depot in the world, which uses solar power to power its buildings. It also boasts cutting-edge infrastructure, such as digital tracking systems, smart charging stations, and green maintenance centers.
