Longines Global Champions Tour and the Global Champions League equestrian season with elite riders from across the world

Doha is prepared to kick off the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) and the Global Champions League (GCL) equestrian season for the sixth year in a row. World-class riders are preparing for the exciting first leg at the cutting-edge Al Shaqab this weekend. Big names hoping to win the LGCT Grand Prix of Doha championship on Saturday have once again been drawn to the three-day competition in Doha, which begins tomorrow.

Among the best riders competing in the event are Maikel van der Vleuten of the Netherlands, who finished second in the LGCT Championship last year, Henrik von Eckermann, the World No. 1 in Sweden, and past Grand Prix of Doha champions Denis Lynch (IRE), Edwina Tops-Alexander (AUS), and Niels Bruynseels (BEL).

After hosting the CHI Al Shaqab, where Malin Baryard-Johnsson, riding H&M Indiana, won the CSI5* 1.60m CHI Al Shaqab - Grand Prix presented by Longines, Doha is holding a significant horse event for the second week in a row. The great lineup for this weekend includes the Swedish star as well.

ExxonMobil Qatar is the main sponsor and Presenting Partner of this year's championship, together with Longines. Additional sponsors of the event include the Equine Veterinary Medical Centre (the official veterinary partner), Aspetar (the official medical partner), Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana.Co (the transportation partner), and the Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha (the hospitality partner).

Offering over €36 million in prize money, the 16-stop 2024 LGCT and GCT season will be held in 14 nations in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

To earn as many points as possible in each leg, up to 40 horse and rider combinations will compete in the LGCT Grand Prix title race. The final meeting is slated to take place in Abu Dhabi in October. There are sixteen teams in the GCL competing for the title in 2024.
